Kate and the Neverland Pirates

As I mentioned in my previous post, once Kate and I were discharged from the hospital, we didn't get to go straight home - we had to go to see a specialist.

Happy Birthday, Kate!

On April 3, 2013 at 12:33 p.m., Katherine Anne Roberts made her entrance! Here is her first picture:

Our beautiful "little" Kate weighed 8 lbs, 12 oz and was 21-1/4 inches long. No wonder that just a few hours earlier, I looked like this:

Easter 2013: Part Two

And now - here are the pictures from Easter Sunday itself!

Just as Thursday through Saturday were busy, Easter Sunday itself flew by, but we had a great day! It started with us oversleeping... oops! Luke actually gave me a good look at the camera before we left for church. Hooray! :)

Here's a snapshot of his Easter basket. In the front are the eggs we dyed together! :)

Following church, we ate lunch at my parents' house. The highlight? Well, after lunch, we got Luke and JD to throw around some balls. We gradually got them to play a game... which ended with Luke chasing JD to throw the ball (ever-so-gently :D) at him. It was really awesome to see Luke truly engaged with his cousin and playing a game with him! They had a lot of fun!

About 30 minutes after lunch, we zipped over to Granny's house to hunt eggs (AGAIN!) with our cousins. I think at this point, Luke was kind of over the massive egg hunt. Fortunately, his precious cousin Nathan helped him get into things a bit more. Sweet little Nater Tot is the best!

And finally - the group shot! We did our best to get the cousins looking at the camera. Of course we missed sweet Harper and Carson, but they'll be with us next Easter- along with THREE ADDITIONAL BABY GIRLS! Oh Calvert family functions are about to get even more fun!

Finally - after amazing dessert that put Jeremy and I in sugar comas - we came home. We watched a little basketball and finished Easter with one more egg hunt in our back yard with our newly-delivered eggs from the Easter Bunny. Luke enjoyed this smaller-scale egg hunt, in part because he could kick some goals. He even wore his ears from his school hunt again, and for almost an hour! So cute.

Oh do I love him so!

I hope you had a Happy Easter, too! Next post? Well, my plan is that my next post is a birth announcement! :) Stay tuned!

Easter 2013: Part One

Our family had a BUSY Easter weekend, beginning with the day before Good Friday. Let's go!

Thursday, 3/28
  • Luke's class Easter egg hunt - we have been practicing egg hunts at our house all week in hopes of getting Luke more into and more prepared for things he can do with kids his age. I was so excited that Jeremy was able to sneak up to his school and see Luke in action. By and large, our practicing at home paid off! Luke isn't as fiercely competitive as his Mommy (really, who is?), so he didn't attack the egg hunt with great urgency. But unlike previous years, he carried his basket around, knew to pick up eggs, and put said eggs in his basket. (Granted, he had to open and check each one out, but hey, progress is progress!) The pictures aren't GREAT, but I zoomed in to focus on Luke as best as I could. The second shows how hilarious it is that he REALLY tried to carry his basket AND open his egg at the same time.

And maybe the most amazing thing? He left those bunny ears on FOR A LONG TIME! :)
  • My final day of work! - I have to say, though I love my job, coworkers, and students, I was pretty elated to reach the last day at work (at least until right after Memorial Day). I haven't really dwelled on it all too much, but this pregnancy has been significantly more uncomfortable than mine with Luke. I am sure it has everything to do with a)a busier job with more responsibility, b)the timing of my pregnancy (months 7 and 8 of my first pregnancy were spent on the couch during summer vacation; I've spent ALL of this one on my feet and on the go), c)having a child to take care of (whom I obviously would never trade!!!), and d)being 4.5 years older. It was a whirlwind of a day as I got my ducks in a row. I went non-stop from the time I arrived at 7:20 a.m. until seven hours later when I dashed off to...
  • My final OB appointment - it's hard to believe, but I saw my doctor for the last time before baby girl's arrival. I got a confirmed induction appointment for Wednesday, 4/3...! My sonogram once again showed that she is doing just perfectly, and my physical exam showed I am making progress towards delivery. (I'll spare further details.) Woo hoo! We have been preparing for the event by talking with Luke constantly about his baby sister's pending arrival, showing her around the nursery, and reading a social story about her birth and homecoming. Luke can actually read it, too. You know I've said it often - he's brilliant, y'all!

Friday, 3/29
  • Since April is Autism Awareness Month, we started our holiday at Build-A-Bear to pick up our precious little blue bear as part of a fundraiser they did to benefit Autism Speaks. Cousin JD, Aunt Jackie, and Uncle Johnny met us for the festivities. Unfortunately, I never got a group picture, but I did get some of Luke making his bear and the one we made for baby sister! He doesn't look thrilled, but he had fun, I promise! :)

  • Afterwards, we went to lunch at Cracker Barrel. No pictures, but to be 37 weeks pregnant and feel like you can eat whatever you want to at Cracker Barrel without guilt was kind of the best ever. And holy heck are their pancakes amaze-balls.
Saturday, 3/30
  • FEAT Easter Egg Hunt: Even though I was pretty miserably uncomfortable, we braved another Easter egg hunt at Northwood Church in Keller sponsored by Families for Effective Autism Treatment. They had some really cool stuff - bounce houses, a train, an Easter bunny (we missed him though), and a BIG OLE egg hunt. It was a great event that I think we'll absolutely try again! Funny back story about the train picture, by the way: the reason Luke looks kind of serious is that he WANTED to ride in the driver's seat. Seriously. He tried to get in there twice, hence the somber/disappointed face in the back car.

     Loving his daddy. :)

    • Dyed eggs at home! Shame on us, this is the first Easter of Luke's life that we have dyed eggs. I know, I know. When I do this again, I will try it EARLY in the day when he's not all tired and crabby from a day out, but all in all, Luke enjoyed himself, as did I, despite looking like a big ole Easter egg myself. : )
Whew... these picture-heavy posts wear me out! More on Easter Sunday itself soon!
